Exquisite writing, heartbreaking and authentic. I felt as if I were experiencing everything you described, from the day you “met” Bridget to the journey you took to include her, then finally say goodbye. Anne: thanks so much. Bridget really was her name. Although I normally change names in vignettes like these, and when I model characters after real people, I didn’t this time, because I want the real Bridget to live forever.

You don’t know me, I found this piece through Janet Reid, following along a trail of others, it led me here. I hate to say the only reason I wanted to read it is because my daughter’s name is Bridget. It’s an old Irish Catholic name which is rarely used anymore. I’m old school Irish Catholic which is why she has it.

Your tribute to a little girl whom you had never met was more than beautiful, it moved me in a way that very few writers do. You transcended her death and brought her to life, catching frogs, climbing trees, and keeping her with you. When you pulled the penny out of your pocket, I have to say, I cried like a baby. Thank you, thank you for sharing this incredible story.

My very best to you Mr. Parrish, may all your dreams come true.
